Sunday, July 9

  • 1 pm – 4 pm. Pavilion in Day Use Area, Sam Owen Campground. Registration and campsite assignment.
  • 5 pm – 6:00 pm. Pavilion. Welcome, introductions and important announcements
  • 6 pm – 8:00 pm. Pavilion. IESTA ice-breaker barbecue
  • 8 pm – 8:45 pm. Pavilion. Lecture: “Geology and Natural Hazards of the Lake Pend Oreille-Clark Fork Area ” (Bill Phillips)

 

Monday, July 10

  • 8 am – 5 pm. Field Trip (Mark McFadden and Roy Breckenridge)
  • Evening free time (optional Sunset Dessert Cruise on Lake Pend Oreille, cost $22)

 

Tuesday, July 11

  • 8 am – 12 pm. Seismic Zones and Building Codes: Rapid visual screening of buildings in Sandpoint (Stephen Weiser)
  • 12 pm – 1 pm. Lunch at Lakeview Park picnic shelter, Sandpoint
  • 1 pm – 5 pm. Rock and Mineral Identification Short Course, North Idaho College Sandpoint Campus (Mark McFadden)
  • Evening free time

 

Wednesday, July 12

  • 8 am – 12 pm. Flooding and mass wasting hazards, Lightning Creek Drainage (Stephen Weiser and Roy Breckenridge)
  • 12 pm – 1 pm. Lunch, East Fork, Lightning Creek
  • 1 pm – 5 pm. Glacial breakout floods and lake sedimentation. Lightning Creek (Roy Breckenridge, Bill Phillips, Mark McFadden)
  • 6 pm – 9 pm. Pavilion. IESTA Barbecue and Rock Raffle, Pavilion

 

Thursday, July 13

  • 8 am – 12 pm. Pavilion. Teaching Natural Hazards (Jim Cash, Bill Phillips, Mark McFadden)
  • 12 pm – 1 pm. Lunch, Pavilion
  • 1 pm – 5 pm. Pavilion and/or Field Locations. Project Development. Participants work on new lesson plans. Staff available for help with equipment, transportation to field sites, and advice.
  • 5 pm – 7:30 pm. Evening free time
  • 7:30 pm – 9 pm. Project work at Pavilion. Staff available for consultation.

 

Friday, July 14

  • 8 am – 11:30 pm. Pavilion. Project presentations by participants
  • 11:30 pm – 11:45 pm. Workshop Evaluation
  • 12:00 pm. Workshop Ends. Vacate campsites by 1 pm
